SUPPORTING RHODE ISLAND NATIONAL GUARD TO BE "ALWAYS READY, ALWAYS THERE"

In 2019, Shanix began the installation of a multi-component system in the new headquarters for the Rhode Island National Guard. This consisted of conference rooms, training rooms, an auditorium, and a Joint Operations Committee command center.

Each conference or training room was equipped with large digital displays coordinated by Crestron HD-MD4x1 HDMI switches. Logitech Meetup cameras were selectively installed to allow for video and audio conferencing. Digital media transmitters and receivers allow for laptop connectivity for briefings and collaborative work. Control functions for the large conference rooms are routed through Extron MLC PLUS 100 panels.

The auditorium focuses on a Da-Lite projector screen, which the Crestron DM-MD8x8 matrix coordinates with the four 65" Sharp displays mounted on the adjacent walls. Multiple transmitters allow for device connectivity throughout the auditorium. Shure handheld microphones combined with Shure fin antennae provide sound reinforcement through the ceiling-mounted Crestron Saros IC6T two-way speakers and allow for better balance among all seats.

In the Joint Operations Committee command center, Shanix installed the latest NVX system from Crestron. This point-to-point system allows for better rendering of video and sound while integrating with the Crestron touch panels installed throughout the room, making media display as simple as possible.

EDEN PARK PATHFINDER PROJECT –

CRANSTON PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT

MIDCENTURY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NOW A FUTURISTIC LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

In 2019, Shanix had the opportunity to work with the Cranston Public Schools Department and Felding Nair on futuristic and inclusive educational innovation at Eden Park Elementary. The Pathfinder Project is the first in a series of infrastructure advancements with the goal of developing a learning community within Cranston's elementary schools. Cooperative education and co-teaching allow students to develop their own best learning methods and give educators a greater opportunity to develop strategies to help young minds grasp concepts beyond rote memorization.

In addition to comfortable furniture and sensory rooms to encourage students' movement and interaction with challenging material, the project included the integration of interactive boards in common spaces and mounted on mobile carts for classroom use. Throughout the building, an updated Atlas IPX PA system with LED screens can display the time, announcements, or emergency alerts. A medium-sized video wall at the entrance of the building informs parents of upcoming events and student achievements.

Updates to each of the five "learning studios" included the installation of speakers with wireless microphone connections for voice lift, Epson projectors with Extron wall-mounted panels and HDMI connections assisting with device routing. Similar updates were provided to the teachers' room, enabling better planning and communication regarding lessons and student needs. Throughout the building, an in-floor loop allows for better accommodation for students, teachers, or parents who rely on hearing aids.

HEADQUARTERS RENOVATIONS –

GILBANE COMPANY

MODERN OFFICE, MODERN LEARNING

Founded in 1870 as a family of carpenters, Gilbane, Inc. is one of the construction and real estate development industry's largest privately held family-owned companies. Though Gilbane has more than 45 office locations around the world, its global headquarters remain in Providence, Rhode Island.

In 2016, after working with Shanix for many other clients over the years, Gilbane brought us on board to outfit their new headquarters. This brand-new location includes offices, multiple collaborative spaces, and learning center rooms. Throughout the building, digital displays on each floor showcase a montage of Gilbane's many projects over their history.

In each of the headquarters' small collaborative spaces, 65-inch Samsung displays were paired with Crestron soundbars with an integrated microphone and camera. This allows for both presentations and video conferencing with simple bring-your-own-device connections.

For larger conference rooms, two side-by-side 65-inch Samsung displays create a single ultrawide image or can be separated into two screens. Logitech cameras and in-ceiling microphones create an atmosphere where everyone in the room can be heard.

Gilbane's state-of-the-art learning center accommodates up to one hundred individuals. A Crestron digital matrix and touch panel coordinate transmissions to up to sixteen displays, including mobile wheeled units that create greater flexibility within the space. Fixed display units and Shure ceiling-mounted microphones and speakers ensure that learners are able to engage from every part of the room.

EMERGENCY CALL SYSTEM –

RHODE ISLAND HOSPITAL

SAFER GARAGES

In 2018, using only the existing infrastructure, Shanix updated the blue light call-for-help stations in the Willard Ave Parking Garage at Rhode Island Hospital to include a video feed using Axis intercoms. This went along with an upgrade to the video surveillance system, replacing analog cameras with higher-resolution fixed panoramic and pan-tilt-zoom models from Pelco.


All cameras were integrated with Pelco's VideoXpert Management Software, the system that runs throughout the RI Hospital campus. The Axis intercoms were also integrated into the help alarm system through Axis Camera Station software. In the event of someone pressing the button and calling for help, hospital security is alerted to go to the scene and a dispatcher is able to communicate with the person in distress.

Shortly after installation, the new intercom cameras were able to record an incident of vandalism that was not captured by the existing pendant cameras.

HOUSING SECURITY CAMERAS –

UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND

UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND CAMPUS SAFETY WITH VIDEO ANALYTICS

Shanix has been working with the University of Rhode Island for many years, on dozens of projects on their multiple campuses. In 2019, Shanix was selected to implement a new campus-wide camera system for the office of Housing and Residential Life.

Shanix programmed and installed over 350 Avigilon cameras throughout twenty-two of URI's residential buildings. Each of these cameras includes self-learning video analytics, which allows the system to develop pattern recognition, such as times of day that students are likely to be in common areas or outside of buildings.

By adding multi-sensor cameras to building exteriors and wide-angle domes on interiors, student residents can feel safer moving around campus. security and administrative staff can feel more secure knowing that the new camera system analytics provide extra alerts for unusual activity, such as individuals loitering around entrances, notifying security to patrol in person.

This project also included the installation of a new structured cabling system to support the new cameras and increase the capacity of the WiFi within the dorms. Not only is this a quality-of-life improvement for students, but it also ensures a stable connection for the analytics and alerts sent by the camera systems.

Preventative Maintenance Scheduling

The best way to prevent problems is to run regular diagnostics on systems and devices. Preventative maintenance includes checking on device connectivity, storage and bandwidth and ensuring that any updates to system software have been successfully installed. Hardware malfunctions are much more easily caught within warranty periods, lessening both time and money spent on replacements.

Upon receipt of the service request, it is entered into our computer database and assigned a time-stamped ticket number. Upon receipt by a Shanix Service Representative, the ticket is then dispatched to one of our dedicated field service technicians. The technician will follow the instructions provided to diagnose, remedy, and/or recommend solutions to the problem.


Repairs are generally completed during the initial visit. In some instances, new parts may need to be ordered or existing parts may need to be sent to the manufacturer for repair. In all cases, an in-office Shanix Service Representative will be in on-going communication with the assigned technician in order to log notations and document what is taking place on the ticket.

The customer will be kept informed regarding all recommendations and repairs. Warranties for equipment, service contracts, etc. are managed in the database by our Service Department.
